The David A.

Dunlap Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (DADDAA) and the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (DIAA) in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in experimental astrophysics.

This will be a joint appointment between the DADDAA (51%) and the Dunlap Institute (49%) at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Qualifications

  • PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related area by the time of appointment (or shortly thereafter) with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.

  • Demonstrated experience in astronomical instrumentation through construction of instruments as a lead/senior investigator or key team member, with strong technical and scientific leadership.

  • Ability to develop and present an instrumentation development plan applicable at the University of Toronto.

  • Experience working within instrumentation teams and developing collaborations; ability to recruit, supervise, mentor, and train students, early-career researchers, and technical staff from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

  • Evidence of research excellence through publications, research statements, conference presentations, awards, and strong letters of reference.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead an innovative, externally funded instrumentation-driven research program in experimental astrophysics.
