Assistant Professor - Space-based and Suborbital Experimental Atmospheric Physics.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue independent, innovative research and establish an outstanding, internationally competitive, externally funded program in Space-based and Suborbital Experimental Atmospheric Physics, including remote sensing of aerosols, water vapour, clouds, pollutants and related atmospheric constituents using satellite and/or sub-orbital platforms.

  • Actively engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and contribute to the enrichment of undergraduate and graduate programs.

  • Develop and strengthen research and teaching linkages within the Department of Physics and with other research groups; collaborate on cross-campus and cross-disciplinary initiatives.

  • Engage with national initiatives such as Canada’s HAWC (High-altitude Aerosols, Water Vapour and Clouds) Mission and MAPLE, recognizing opportunities to participate in Canada’s remote sensing activities.

  • Build institutional and national capacity by contributing to related developments in Canada’s remote sensing community.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with demonstrated excellence in research in Experimental Atmospheric Physics and teaching in Physics.

  • Evidence of research excellence, indicated by publications in top-ranked, field-relevant journals (or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards), a forward-looking research statement, awards and accolades, and strong referee endorsements.

  • Evidence of teaching excellence demonstrated through a teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities; experience as a teaching assistant, curriculum development, workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or pedagogical innovation.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
