Job Title: SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER
Location: Johannesburg, ZA
Organization: School of Construction Economics and Management Department

The School of Construction Economics and Management is one of the 33 Schools within Wits University, Johannesburg and one of seven within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment.

The School offers undergraduate programmes in Construction Studies and Property Studies, postgraduate programmes at Honours, PG Diploma, Masters and PhD levels in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Property Development and Management, Real Estate, and Facilities Management, and executive education programmes.

We recently started offering new Postgraduate Diploma programmes in Construction Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Health and Safety Management, Infrastructure Procurement and Delivery Management and Construction Law and Contract Management.

Current enrolment stands around 1500 students of which 46% are undergraduates and 54% are postgraduates.

We are the largest School in our field in South Africa and aim to be a collaborative, healthy and self‑sustainable team that works effectively to achieve high research output and impactful education internationally.

The School has an Industry Advisory Board comprising of industry leaders drawn from the construction and property sectors.

Position Details

We seek research active individuals who will drive teaching and research in Project Management, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Facilities Management and Property Studies/Real Estate.

Candidate Profile – Lecturer Rank

  • Holder of a Master’s degree in a built environment or business management qualification; PhD preferred.

  • Evidence of teaching, course development and academic administration.

  • Evidence of postgraduate supervision and publication of research.

  • Registered member of professional bodies such as RICS, CIOB, SACPCMP or SACQSP.

  • NRF rating is an advantage.

Candidate Profile – Senior Lecturer Rank

  • Holder of a PhD in a built environment or business management qualification with experience lecturing in Project Management and Property Studies/Real Estate.

  • Experience in curriculum and course design, assessment methodologies.

  • Ability to conduct and supervise industry and student research at Masters and Doctoral level.

  • Registered member of professional bodies such as RICS, CIOB, SACPCMP or SACQSP.

  • Academic leadership and mentorship abilities.

  • Track record of publishing locally and internationally.

  • NRF rating is an advantage.

  • Ability to generate external research income.

Duties (Both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer)

  • Provide best practice-informed teaching to undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education students.

  • Supervise industry and postgraduate research in a cross‑disciplinary environment.

  • Use reflective practice to pursue a scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Conduct research of national and international significance and publish consistently.

  • Write research grant proposals and secure external funding.

  • Design and implement new programmes and manage existing programmes.

  • Participate in academic administration and committees at the School and Faculty level.

  • Mentor colleagues and students.

  • Develop and sustain relationships with students, alumni and industry stakeholders.

  • Work with stakeholders to achieve strategic vision and priorities, focusing on skills development, professionalism and transformation.

  • Represent the School on multiple platforms and reinforce its brand.
