An exciting career opportunity currently exists for a Training & Support Engineer – based at our Head Office in Centurion, South Africa.

The successful candidate will report to the Operations & Logistics Manager.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Training & Support Engineer is responsible for delivering a completed and fully commissioned machine control and/or site positioning solution to the client.

This includes site establishment, 3D design and modelling, machine measure up, commissioning, accuracy within specifications, operator training, surveyor training, workflow integration and after sales support.

KEY RESONSABLITIES INCLUDE:

Product Implementation

  • Manage all field implementation to deliver products/solutions to customers’ satisfaction.

  • Ensure final, implemented product/solution is sufficiently tested and implementation is signed off by the customer, and provide documented implementation tests.

  • Coordinate and work with the relevant internal individuals/teams to ensure successful implementations.

Field Support

  • Resolve any reported product/solutions issues or malfunctions through following proper diagnostic/troubleshooting steps, as well as standard procedures and protocols, to identify and understand the problem and provide suitable solutions.

  • Continuously provide optimal customer support whether through field visits or via e communication.

  • Ask customers targeted questions during telephonic support to identify the root of the problem.

  • Talk customers through suitable/applicable steps and actions to resolve issues when providing telephonic support.

  • Ensure all product/solution/customer issues are properly logged, provide timeous reports and manage own field dispatch schedule.

  • Continuously build supportive customer relationships.

Technical Support

  • Resolve any reported product/solution issues or malfunctions through following proper diagnostic/troubleshooting steps, as well as standard procedures and protocols, to identify and understand the problem and provide suitable solutions.

  • Continuously provide optimal technical customer support whether through field visits or telephonic.

  • Ask customers targeted questions during telephonic support to identify the root of the problem.

  • Talk customers through suitable/applicable steps and actions to resolve issues when providing telephonic support.

  • Ensure all product/solution/customer issues are properly logged, provide timeous reports and manage own field dispatch schedule.

  • Continuously build supportive customer relationships.

  • Provide technical support to internal staff involved in the sales (i.e. pre-sales support) and implementation of relevant products/solutions.

Product Training

  • Continuously build and expand on own product knowledge.

  • Prepare for customer training through completing a needs analysis of the end users being trained and compiling training material and agenda accordingly.

  • Present technical training, as certified Trimble trainer, to all customers and product end users, on newly acquired products or product upgrades.

Quality Control

Ensure quality control of all products/solutions supplied to customers.

General Administration

  • Compiling of contractor’s packs.

  • Keeping records of training completed.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE

  • Degree/Diploma in surveying or relevant engineering/technical fields.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on construction sites.

  • Experience in the Geospatial industry will be an advantage.

  • Sound understanding and experience in road construction and design
  • Trimble Business Centre & 3rd Party designing software (e.g. Model Maker, Road Maker)
  • Experienced user of Trimble survey/site positioning systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, test and service technical equipment.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & non-verbal) to provide technical help.

  • Understanding of the construction industry/applications/solutions/customer requirements.

  • Understanding of solutions implementation and service level support best practice.

  • Conceptual ability to analyse, interpret & offer customised solutions.

  • Problem solving ability.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle.

  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively internationally (mainly within Africa) and be away from home a regular basis.

  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job and operational requirements.
